Six miles of pristine dunes — Cape Cod's most spectacular barrier beach, right in Barnstable Village's backyard.
About Sandy Neck Beach
Sandy Neck Beach is one of the most spectacular natural features in all of Barnstable — a 6-mile barrier beach of pristine dunes, tidal flats, and salt marsh that forms the northern boundary of Barnstable Harbor. For residents of Barnstable Village, Sandy Neck is practically in their backyard.
The beach is wild, natural, and largely undeveloped — a true Cape Cod wilderness experience that is increasingly rare. The scale of Sandy Neck is what sets it apart: six miles of beach means you can walk for hours and find yourself completely alone, with nothing but the dunes, the harbor, and the sky.
Sandy Neck is also one of the few Cape Cod beaches with permitted OHV access, and a premier destination for birdwatching, with the dunes and tidal flats supporting an extraordinary variety of shorebirds, raptors, and waterfowl throughout the year.
Beautiful harbor waters with calm conditions — excellent swimming in a spectacular natural setting.

Local Insider Tip
Walk east along Sandy Neck to escape the crowds near the parking lot — the further you go, the more pristine and private it gets. After about a mile, you'll often have the beach entirely to yourself. The views from the top of the dunes are spectacular — Barnstable Harbor to the south, Cape Cod Bay to the north. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen — there are no facilities once you leave the parking area.
