Six miles of pristine dunes — Cape Cod's most spectacular barrier beach and a true wilderness experience.
About Sandy Neck Beach
Sandy Neck is one of the most spectacular beaches on Cape Cod — a 6-mile barrier beach of pristine dunes, tidal flats, and salt marsh on Barnstable Harbor. The beach is wild, natural, and largely undeveloped, offering a true Cape Cod wilderness experience that is increasingly rare.
The scale of Sandy Neck is what sets it apart. Six miles of beach means you can walk for hours and find yourself completely alone, with nothing but the dunes, the harbor, and the sky. The further east you walk from the parking lot, the more pristine and private the beach becomes.
Sandy Neck is also one of the few Cape Cod beaches with permitted OHV access — a unique experience that allows you to explore the full length of the barrier beach by vehicle. OHV permits are required and available from the Town of Barnstable. The beach is also a premier birdwatching destination, with the dunes and tidal flats supporting an extraordinary variety of shorebirds and raptors.
Barnstable Harbor waters are calm and beautiful — excellent swimming in a stunning natural setting.
