The original harbor town — history, law, and Cape Cod heritage.
About Barnstable Village
Barnstable Village is the seat of Barnstable County and the original settlement of the Town of Barnstable, incorporated in 1639. As the county seat, the village is home to the Barnstable County Courthouse, the Superior Court, and a concentration of legal and government offices that give it a distinguished, civic character unlike any other village on the Cape.
The village is centered on Route 6A, the Old King's Highway, which here is lined with historic Federal and Greek Revival homes, the Sturgis Library — the oldest public library building in the United States — and a handful of excellent restaurants and inns that have served travelers for centuries.
Barnstable Harbor — one of the most beautiful working harbors on Cape Cod — anchors the village's north side, offering boating, fishing, and stunning views across the Great Marsh to Sandy Neck Beach. Real estate here ranges from historic Route 6A estates to inland neighborhoods, all defined by exceptional architectural character and a deep sense of place.
